Be a good friend
What do you do when you hear someone is facing difficulties? It depends on so much: the person, the circumstances, your availability. Don’t worry about what you can’t do; offer what you can do. Something as simple as grocery shopping for someone, or bringing over a meal, can be exactly what is needed. Sometimes having someone to sit with in silence is enough. Make suggestions of what you are willing to do; it can be too much to figure out what you need when you are in the middle of something. In short, be a good friend, in whatever way you can.
