Let go of your expectations

Life is tricky. Things change, and all of a sudden things aren’t how you expected they would be. Something goes a little sideways – someone you thought was a friend turns on you, you lose your job, you get a divorce, you get sick, someone you love dies – and you are left trying to figure out what you do now. You no longer recognize your life, and you don’t know how to proceed. I have a suggestion: let go of your expectations of how things were supposed to be. Until you do this, it will be difficult to let go and move on. Be thankful for what you had, whether it was long term or brief. Look hopefully to the future possibilities. But don’t live in the past or the future – be present to what your life is now. It may not be what you thought it would be, but it is what you have.
