Foreboding joy: that’s what Dr. Brené Brown calls that feeling you get when you think things are going so well that something bad must be about to happen. You can’t quite fully appreciate all the good and the joy, because you are afraid it will all be taken away. The thing is, you just don’t know when or if all that joy will be taken away; not fully experiencing and appreciating it is not going to either keep it from going away or make it go away. The willingness to be vulnerable is really all we have to help us get through this. Lean into the joy you have with gratitude now, because now is all we have. If you wake up tomorrow and your joy is gone, would you rather say, “I knew something was going to go wrong,” or “At least I enjoyed it while it was here”? Dare to be vulnerable and embrace your life.
